BOG NOMINEES ANNOUNCED; JUSTICE FUNDS HONOR PAST PRESIDENTS
Last week’s dedication of two new NCBA Foundation Endowment Justice Funds and next month’s NCBA Annual Meeting share a distinctive connection when it comes to leadership of the North Carolina Bar Association. The Justice Funds, underwritten by K&L Gates LLP and earmarked for the Legal Aid of North Carolina Fund, honor two NCBA past presidents, Clarence W. “Ace” Walker and J. Norfleet Pruden III of Charlotte. The Annual Meeting is a celebration of leadership with the installation of a new president and the election of a new-president elect, vice presidents and members of the Board of Governors. The Annual Meeting is scheduled June 25-28 at the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa in Asheville; don’t delay – cutoff for room reservations at the NCBA group rate is May 20!

CRIMINAL JUSTICE HONORS TWO; INTERNATIONAL SECTION EYES TURKEY
The Criminal Justice Section honored Cumberland County District Attorney Ed Grannis and Greensboro defense attorney Locke Clifford last week as recipients of the Peter Gilchrist Award and the Wade Smith Award, respectively. Click here for details. In other news involving NCBA Sections, the International Law and Practice Section has selected Turkey as the destination for its 2010 Attorney Exchange Program. Previous excursions were conducted in Taiwan (2006) and Argentina (2008). IN MEMORIAM
Former N.C. Supreme Court Justice David M. Britt, a founding member of the N.C. Court of Appeals and former Speaker of the N.C. House of Representatives, died May 5 in Cary at the age of 92. Justice Britt was honored last year with the establishment of an NCBA Foundation Endowment Justice Fund in his name, and in 1966 received the NCBA’s highest honor, the John J. Parker Award.
