OCT. 1 DEADLINE NEARS FOR JOHN R. JUSTICE GRANT FUND APPLICATIONS
Friday, Oct. 1, is the deadline for applications for the new John R. Justice Grant Fund Program. Administered by NC LEAF, the program provides loan repayment assistance for local, state and federal public defenders, local and state prosecutors, or full-time employees of a nonprofit organization operating under a contract with a state or unit of local government who provide legal representation to indigent persons in criminal or juvenile delinquency cases. IN MEMORIAM
Moses Braxton Gillam Jr. of Windsor died Sept. 25 at the age of 93. A 1939 graduate of the UNC School of Law, he opened his law practice in Windsor in 1946 and never retired. His wife, law school classmate and law partner, the former Sarah Starr of Mooresville, was recognized in 2004 by the NCBA as one of North Carolina’s first 100 women attorneys. Their son, Moses Braxton Gillam III, is an NCBA member who also practices law in Windsor. Access the link below for more.
