Former NCBA Board Member Dies

Charles Ward White, a Durham lawyer who served on the Board of Governors of the North Carolina Bar Association in 1955-57, died Sunday. He was 86.
The son of former Wake Forest law professor R.B. White, he graduated from Wake Forest College in 1940. White served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, then returned to earn his law degree from the Duke University School of Law in 1948.
Active in the NCBA’s Real Estate and Estate Planning & Fiduciary Law sections, White practiced law in Durham for 50 years. He entered practice as an associate with Basil M. Watkins, then formed a partnership with his brother, R. Bruce White Jr.
The White brothers remained in partnership until 1962, at which time Charles White joined Hance Hofler and Lillard Mount to form the Hofler, Mount & White firm.
He remained with the firm until 1994, then served of counsel with King, Walker, Lambe & Crabtree before retiring in 1997.
In addition to NCBA service, White served two terms on the State Bar Council (1970-73 and 1980-83)
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Pierce Johnson White.
