Patron Campaign Sets Another Mark

Outgoing Development Committee Chair John Mason.

The Development Committee of the North Carolina Bar Association Foundation recently completed another successful Patron Campaign. Make that astounding, if you will, considering all of the effort these volunteers put into completion of the N.C. Bar Center’s new Liberty Garden.

The credit, outgoing Chair John Mason of Asheville will readily attest, goes to the donors: 758 Patrons contributed a total of $137,280 during the 2005-06 association year. The total establishes yet another one-year giving record for the Patron Campaign, which supports public service and pro bono projects of the NCBA Foundation, including the Lawyer Referral Service.

Mason also deserves a substantial measure of credit for all of his efforts over an impressive four-year tenure as chair, during which time Patron Campaign giving increased by nearly 50 percent.

“During John's four-year tenure,” stated NCBAF Director of Development Tom Hull, “the Liberty Garden project was conceived, planned and constructed. His vision resulted in a beautiful garden that compliments the Bar Center.

“The Liberty Garden was dedicated in May and is the first outdoor venue at the Bar Center with a wonderful series of recognition and naming opportunities.”

Succeeding Mason as chair of the Development Committee will be Sharon C. Daniel of Greensboro. The chief fiduciary officer for U.S. Trust, Daniel previously served as chair of the NCBA Estate Planning and Fiduciary Law Section.

Patrons are members and friends of the NCBA who contribute $100 or more to the annual Patron Campaign. Gift categories have also been established to recognize Patrons ($100-199), Silver Patrons ($200-349), Gold Patrons ($350-499) and Platinum Patrons ($500 and up).

The annual Patron Honor Roll is published and distributed statewide and recognizes each Patron for his or her gift. The Patron Campaign will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2006-07.

There are more than 30 donors who have contributed every year since its inception in 1982-83. Almost $1.5 million has been raised to support the Foundation over this quarter century. During 2006-07, special recognition will be given to those longstanding donors.

Patron Campaign contributions are tax-deductible and checks should be made payable to the NCBA Foundation, P.O. Box 3688, Cary, NC 27519. Contributions may also be made online at www.ncbar.org/foundation/patronCampaign/giveOnline.aspx.
