In Memoriam: Judge H. Weldon Lloyd, Jr.

Vance County District Court Judge H. Weldon Lloyd, Jr., died Wednesday at Wrightsville Beach.
A judge in the 9th Judicial District since December 1988, the 55-year-old Lloyd was a lifelong resident of Vance County.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by J.M. White Funeral Home, according to a spokesman on Wednesday night.
Lloyd began practicing law in Vance County in 1979 after attending North Carolina Wesleyan College for his undergraduate work, East Carolina University for his graduate work, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for his juris doctorate.
According to the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts Web site, Judge Lloyd was a member of the N.C. District Court Judges Association, N.C. State Bar Association, N.C. Bar Association, N.C. Academy of Trial Lawyers, American Bar Association, Vance County Bar Association, 9th Judicial District Bar Association, Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity and the N.C. Judges Association.
Judge Lloyd was a lifelong member of Union Chapel Methodist Church. His wife, Janet Kelly Lloyd, is a teacher at Eaton-Johnson Middle School.
