BLOG: Attorney Exchange In Argentina

A delegation including 15 members of the North Carolina Bar Association departed on Friday, June 6, for Argentina, to participate in an attorney exchange program coordinated by the International Law and Practice Section.
John Erwin is leading the delegation, which includes Linda Daniels, Becky French, Richard Gabriel, William Harazin, Dick Heidgerd, Deborah Hildebran-Bachofen, Scott Hile, Allison Holmes, Robert Kilroy, Emily Kuhn, Ben Kuhn, Dan Martin, Christina Pierce and Jennifer Stuart. Attorneys from Argentina will visit N.C. next year.
Day One: Travel. T-Bones. Tango.
The NCBA delegation departed on Friday evening, June 6, and arrived in Buenos Aires the next morning. Food and fun ensued as the first day in Argentina extended into the next.
Day Two: Buenos Aires Orientation
From the balcony where Eva Peron once stood to a photo op with a Diego Maradona look-alike, the Argentine expedition is off to a star-studded start in Buenos Aires.
Day Three: Formal Delegation Meetings Begin
The NCBA delegation visits the American Chamber of Commerce, the Court of Appeals and Argentina’s mandatory “public bar.”
Day Four: Sorry, No "Mobing" Allowed
The delegation visits the private bar in Buenos Aires and the U.S. Embassy for presentations by the Deputy Chief of Mission and the U.S. Commerce Department representative.
Day Six: Final Meeting with Argentine Bar
The NCBA exchange team learns more about mediation, with is mandatory in many types of civil disputes, and learns of the Argentine bar’s interest in visiting N.C. next year.
Day Seven: Off to Uruguay on Friday the 13th
Assured that Tuesday the 13th is noted for bad luck in this part of the world, the NCBA exchange team spends the day in Uruguay.
Day Eight: Tigre and Delta Del Paraná
The flavor and history of Argentina are captured in a final excursion to Tigre and Delta Del Paraná.
Final Day: Back in the U.S.; Thoughts About the Mission
The NCBA exchange team returns to North Carolina with a enhanced view of Argentina and the lawyers and judges who comprise its legal system.
