YLD Mentorship Programs Seek Volunteers

Article Date: Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Written By: Russell Rawlings

The NCBA Young Lawyers Division is seeking mentors and mentees to participate in its three mentorship programs. Each of these programs matches lawyers or law students with practicing attorneys to discuss and respond to questions about the legal profession.

Mentors have an opportunity to provide information and practical advice about a particular practice area, the importance of civility, and issues that may be unique to new attorneys, minorities, and/or law students.

The three mentorship programs are:

Silent Partners Program: Matches new members of the bar with practicing attorneys, who are in the same area, similar size firm, and/or have the same type of practice, to discuss and respond to questions about the practical aspects of the legal profession, issues faced by new attorneys, and leadership opportunities.

Law Student Mentorship Program: Matches law students from the various N.C. law schools with practicing attorneys to discuss and respond to questions about law school, career opportunities, and practicing law in North Carolina.

Minority Mentorship Program: Matches minority members of the bar with practicing minority attorneys, who can discuss and provide guidance about general practical aspects of the legal profession, issues unique to minorities in the legal profession, and leadership opportunities available to minority members of the bar.

If you are interested in serving as a mentor for one or more of these worthwhile programs or in being paired with a mentor, please return the completed Mentorship Program Application form to Jacquelyn Terrell at jterrell@ncbar.org.

Act today! Please return your form by Friday, August 1, 2008, in order to help begin the pairings.

We look forward to hearing from you.  Be a mentor, and help make a difference!
