ABA Presents YLD Awards of Achievement
Article Date: Friday, August 21, 2009
The Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association has received
two first-place recognitions from the ABA YLD through its annual Award of
Achievement Program.
The first-place honors were extended in the Comprehensive and Newsletter
categories.
NCBA YLD also received two second-place awards in the Single Project
category. The USERRA Mediation Project was recognized in the Service to the
Public category while How to Open Your Own Law Firm was recognized for Service
to the Bar.
The awards culminate an exceptional year for the NCBA’s Young Lawyers
Division, during which its members and their volunteer leaders achieved enormous
success in service to the public and the profession.
“I am thrilled that the YLD has once again won numerous national awards for
its bar and public service projects,” said Craig Cannon, newly installed chair
of the NCBA Young Lawyers Division.
“The results of the 2009 ABA Award of Achievement competition are a
reflection of the tremendous amount of work that was done during the 2008-09 bar
year by the 4,500 members of the YLD and the incredible leadership that was
provided by Patti Ramseur and the YLD Executive Council.”
The ABA YLD’s Awards of Achievement Program is an opportunity for state and
local young lawyer organizations affiliated with the ABA YLD to submit their
best projects for evaluation and recognition by a jury of their peers.
It is designed to encourage project development by recognizing the time,
effort, and skills expended by young lawyer organizations in implementing public
service and bar service projects in their communities.
“This is great,” added Roberta King, chair-elect of the NCBA YLD. “These
awards are a reflection of Patti Ramseur’s exceptional leadership, Kirk
Bradley’s hard work in putting together the applications, Jacquelyn Terrell’s
continued hard work and guidance as our staff liaison, the leadership of our
executive committee, the leadership of our committee chairs and the hard work of
our committee members.
“I am proud to have been part of this.”
