CLE Replaces Registration Postcards With E-mail, Adds Twitter

Article Date: Monday, December 07, 2009

Written By: Russell Rawlings

The North Carolina Bar Association Foundation’s ever-evolving CLE Department recently implemented two significant changes, both of which are intended to improve the delivery of top-flight continuing legal education programming to our members.

The first of these changes involves the confirmation postcards that CLE attendees have received in the past regarding their registration for CLE programs. The postcards have been replaced by e-mail confirmation notices that will also serve as the attendee’s receipt.

In a manner similar to airlines and online ticket purchases, the e-mail confirmation notices will also serve as your receipt. Attendees are now asked to print the confirmation notice and bring a copy of it to the program in order to expedite the check-in process.

The key word, of course, is “expedite.” Whereas the postcards have served a valuable purpose in the past, for both members and CLE staff, the e-notices are faster and more efficient. The receipts can also be stored electronically should members prefer doing so.

“We're delighted that our new Web site gives us the ability to use e-mail to confirm registrations for all of our CLE program attendees regardless of how a person registers for a program,” said Ray Ruppert, director of CLE.

“We've been able to provide electronic confirmation before but only when a person registered online. Now that we can use e-mail to confirm everyone’s registration, it should enable us to provide faster acknowledgement of a registration, help keep CLE costs down by eliminating mailing expenses and provide members with both a written confirmation of registration and a receipt on one sheet of paper.

“We just hope that CLE attendees will remember to print out a copy of the confirmation and bring it with them so we can continue to provide them with a rapid means of onsite registration just as we did with the postcards.”

CLE’s second major recent development is also Web-based: the NCBA Foundation’s CLE Department now has a presence on Twitter. The addition of the popular social networking tool will allow members to “follow” NCBA CLE via http://twitter.com/NCBA_CLE for reminders, specials and other valuable information.

Questions regarding the new electronic notification process should be directed by phone to 1-800-228-3402 (ask for Nicole or Jessica) or by e-mail to askCLE@ncbar.org.

Questions regarding Twitter should be directed to Tina Hughes via e-mail at thughes@ncbar.org or by phone at 1-800-228-3402 (ask for CLE).
