RE: Call to Action –
Support Legal Aid of North Carolina as a Pro Bono Volunteer TODAY
The News & Observer of Raleigh carried an article today regarding the extreme measures Legal Aid of North Carolina a is taking to maintain its ability to serve low income people in North Carolina. This country's recession has impacted LANC in at least two ways: increased need for their services and decreased funding.
In the spirit of Rule 0.1 of our Revised Rules of Professional Conduct, the North Carolina Bar Association needs you to help us maintain our profession at its best by assuring the availability of legal services to all, regardless of their ability to pay.
On March 6, 2009 (less than a month from now) we will come together as an organization for our second annual 4ALL Statewide Service (phone-in) taking calls to answer legal questions from members of the public. That will be a great day for our organization and a great day for the public to connect with our profession and to receive much needed legal information.
But for today, I ask you to contact Legal Aid to take a pro bono case.
Charles L. Becton
President
North Carolina Bar Association
