Volunteers Needed For WRAL Call-In Event

recent Attorneys on Call program.
Building from the overwhelming success of the recent statewide service day, the North Carolina Bar Association and WRAL-TV 5 have scheduled an encore performance of Attorneys on Call for Tuesday, May 12, from noon to 7 p.m.

The program will focus on consumer-related topics including bankruptcy, debt collections, foreclosures and other matters arising out of the ongoing economic downturn.

Members of the NCBA’s Bankruptcy Section in the Triangle area are being recruited to provide free legal information to callers during this event; however, volunteers are welcome from as far away as they would wish to travel and participation is not limited to section members.

What is limited is the time for securing volunteers to staff any or all of the following three shifts: noon to 2 p.m.; 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The same set location that was used for the annual 4ALL ask-a-lawyer event on March 6 will be used.

Members of the N.C. Bar Center staff will be on hand to facilitate the event. Michelle Cofield, director of public service and pro bono activities, and Julie Fink, assistant director of sections and divisions who serves as staff liaison to the Bankruptcy Section, have been working with 5 On Your Side anchor/reporter Monica Laliberte to coordinate the event.

Anyone who would like to volunteer or ask questions regarding the event is encouraged to contact Jessica Griffin via e-mail at Jgriffin@ncbar.org immediately.

The program represents an excellent opportunity for new and seasoned Bankruptcy Section members, as well as other attorneys who have experience in dealing with consumer-related matters, to join together in helping fellow citizens through this pro bono effort.
