Carl Younger, who has served as President of Lawyers Mutual Liability Insurance Company of North Carolina since January 2002., will leave the Company effective January 30, 2009. Gerald Arnold, the former Chief Judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals who has served as Lawyers Mutual’s Senior Vice President of Claims since 1998 will succeed Younger as President.
Mr. Younger advised the Board of Directors of Lawyers Mutual that he was leaving for personal reasons. “I have been truly blessed to have been given the opportunity to work with Lawyers Mutual and the attorneys of North Carolina over the last six years,” said Mr. Younger. Mr. Younger stated that he was particularly proud of the special focus of Lawyers Mutual on service to North Carolina attorneys and knows that Judge Arnold, the Board and the entire staff will continue that focus.
“Mr. Younger’s dedication and commitment to Lawyers Mutual and its insureds will be missed,” said Glen Hardymon who Chairs the Lawyers Mutual Board of Directors. “Mr. Younger has served with distinction throughout his tenure with the Company. The Board is confident that Gerald Arnold, given his sterling record of leadership and integrity, will serve Lawyers Mutual well during this time of transition.”
Judge Arnold is a graduate of East Carolina and the University of North Carolina School of Law. Following law school, Judge Arnold entered general practice in Lillington, North Carolina with Robert Morgan, a former U.S. Senator. Judge Arnold served two terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives for Harnett and Lee Counties and was elected to the North Carolina Court of Appeals in 1974 and served for 24 years. In 1998 Judge Arnold joined Lawyers Mutual and has served as Senior Vice President of Claims for the past 11 years.
Lawyers Mutual was established in 1977 with support of the North Carolina Bar Association in order to meet the ever-increasing liability insurance needs of North Carolina’s growing legal profession.
