Kernersville Wills For Heroes Set July 24

Article Date: Tuesday, July 13, 2010

The Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association will hold a Wills for Heroes event in Kernersville on Saturday, July 24, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (the last appointment is scheduled for 4 p.m.) at Kernersville Fire Department located at 316 West Bodenhamer Street. No prior estate planning background is required to serve as an attorney or non-attorney volunteer.

Licensed N.C. attorneys are needed to draft the wills. First responders are provided with a questionnaire to fill out beforehand, and it corresponds with the fill in the blank HotDocs software used to draft the estate planning documents. Notaries and witnesses are also needed.

Volunteers are encouraged to volunteer all day, if possible, but any time that you can volunteer will be appreciated. If you can only volunteer for part of the day, please indicate if you would like to volunteer for the morning session (9 a.m.–1 p.m.) or the afternoon session (12 p.m.–5 p.m.)

Training for this event is scheduled at 9 a.m. for the morning session and at 12 p.m. for the afternoon session. Training consists of approximately 30 minutes of training on basic N.C. law regarding wills, and about 30 minutes of practicing on the computers using HotDocs software in case there are any questions.

If you are a licensed attorney practicing in the area of wills & estates, please let us know if you would be willing to help with the training. In addition, if you have experience in the area of wills & estates, please let us know if you are willing to serve as a floater during the actual event to answer any questions that the other attorneys drafting the wills may have.

And please volunteer regardless of whether you are a member of the YLD. Volunteers of all ages and from all areas of the North Carolina Bar Association have participated in the past and are encouraged to do so as Wills for Heroes continues to provide this greatly appreciated pro bono service to first responders.

Additional materials will be e-mailed to those who sign up to participate, however prior to the event date it will also be helpful to review the following “This is the Law Pamphlets” available on the NCBA website:

and

As you can see, there is plenty to do and we need as much help as possible. If you or someone you know (including non-attorney staff members at your work or friends) would like to volunteer for this event, please click on the link below for more information and to register as a volunteer:
