Successful Wills For Heroes Event Held In Hickory
Article Date: Tuesday, December 07, 2010
Written By: Russell Rawlings
The 16th installment of Wills for Heroes, conducted Saturday in Hickory by the Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association, was most successful. Free estate planning documents were prepared for more than 70 first responders, most of who were accompanied by their spouses at the Business and Industrial Complex of Catawba Valley Community College.
“What really made this event such a success was that we had attorneys, paralegals, law students and other volunteers from as far south as Charlotte and as far west as Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Chapel Hill and even Raleigh,” stated Jillian E Brevorka, who serves as co-chair of the YLD Wills for Heroes Committee with Jake Epstein.
“It was wonderful to see so many people from across the state show their support for our first responders in Catawba County and the western part of the state. I know that the first responders were extremely grateful to all who braved the snow and gave their time for the event.”
First responders and their spouses have been grateful throughout the three-plus years that the YLD has been involved with Wills for Heroes. Approximately 7,500 documents have now been prepared for more than 2,600 individuals.
The Wills for Heroes Foundation was established by attorneys Anthony Hayes of South Carolina and Jeff Jacobson of Arizona after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The Foundation works to assist first responders across the country in a number of ways, including providing free estate planning documents and other financial assistance programs.
The YLD adopted Wills for Heroes as an official project in 2007 and has never looked back, only forward.
With that in mind, mark the date of Feb. 26, 2011, on your calendars. That’s when a Wills for Heroes program will be conducted in Wilmington. Details will follow.
Congratulations, YLD, and thanks to all of the volunteer attorneys, law students, paralegals and notaries public who make this outstanding endeavor both possible and successful.
