Cleghorn has served since 2007 as the associate executive director of the North Carolina State University Alumni Association, where she was the directed membership services for more than 170,000 living NCSU alumni.
She served in a similar capacity at Florida State University from 2004-07, where she was director of marketing and membership for FSU’s 260,000 alumni. From 1997-2004 Cleghorn served as membership director and producer for WFSU TV/FM, a PSB/NPR affiliate station in Tallahassee, where Florida State is located.
Cleghorn holds a bachelor’s degree in media communication from Florida State and is pursuing a master’s degree in liberal studies with a focus in non-profit management from N.C. State.
Horowitz has served the past year as director of the North Carolina Lawyers Entrepreneurs Assistance Program (NC LEAP) and will retain oversight of that program.
Licensed to practice law in North Carolina and Georgia, Horowitz previously served as an associate attorney with Gabriela J. Matthews & Associates in Durham and as a staff and contract attorney with the DeKalb County (Ga.) Child Advocacy Center.
A 2002 graduate of Indiana University, Horowitz received a bachelor’s degree in business management. She earned her law degree in 2005 from California Western School of Law in San Diego, and completed her Master of Laws in taxation at the University of Alabama School of Law in 2010.
A public service program of the NCBA Foundation providing pro bono legal advice and assistance to low-wealth entrepreneurs since 2007, NC LEAP now serves all 100 North Carolina counties. Its services range from basic transactional legal needs as struggling entrepreneurs strive to establish their business and create jobs to potential long term client-counselor relations as their businesses grow.
“We are pleased to announce the appointments of Erin Cleghorn and Mary Horowitz,” said NCBA Executive Director Allan Head. “Erin’s background in membership and marketing fits perfectly with the growing needs of this association, and Mary will provide excellent leadership of public service and pro bono activities while continuing her fine work with NC LEAP.”
