Q. Where did NC Casemaker come from?
A. Casemaker, a computerized legal research library was developed in 1998 by Lawriter and the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) to assist attorneys with the practice of law, is now available in North Carolina. The free legal research service has saved more than $4 million a month in legal research fees for Ohio, according to Ohio State Bar Association officials. The North Carolina Bar Association launched NC Casemaker at the NCBA Annual Meeting on June 21, 2001 in Asheville and is the third state to join after Ohio and Nebraska. There are eight other states reviewing Casemaker. As states join, their legal materials will be added to the library for others states to access and utilize.
