POSITION SUMMARY:

The Executive Director is the chief operating and managing executive of the Wake County Bar Association and the Tenth Judicial District Bar (hereinafter collectively "the Association") and is responsible to the officers and the Boards of Directors for the effective overall operation of the Association.  The Executive Director participates in Board formulation of goals, objectives and policy.  The Executive Director is responsible for managing office and staff; and organizes and oversees programs and activities of the Association.

EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, AND TRAINING:
    
Required:  Bachelor's Degree
Preferred:  Experience with the Legal Profession

EXPERIENCE:  

Experience with Non-Profit Organizations and Volunteer Networks, including Budgetary Formulation, Management, Organization and Supervisory Experience.

ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.  Capable of working effectively with people at all levels. Computer skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, Outlook, and Excel.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
 
A. Administrative Duties

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the organization
  • Assures that the officers and Boards are kept fully informed on the conditions and operations of the Association(s) and on all important factors influencing them
  • Responsible for the employment, supervision and discharge of personnel, subject to overall personnel policy
  • Provides staff and liaison support for all organizations and functions of the Association 
  • Coordinates and oversees all activities and events
  • Promotes interest and active participation in Bar activities among the membership and affiliated groups and provides proper communication of activities of the Boards and the Bar through the communication function of the Bar
  • Assures that effective relationships with other Bar organizations are maintained and that the position of the Bar or its members is enhanced in accordance with the policies and objectives of the Bar
  • Maintains relations with other associations, industry, government, public service organizations and vendors as necessary to promote the best interest of the Bar 

B. Board/Committee Duties
 

  • Executes all decision of the Boards and their duly constituted committees except when execution is otherwise specifically assigned for action by the Officers,  Boards or their committees
  • With the assistance of staff, provides committee chairs with the necessary support and assistance in accordance with policy
  • Executes such contracts and commitments as may be necessary and/or authorized by the Boards
  • Attends all meetings of the Boards of Directors and, in the absence of the Secretary or substitute recorder, serves as recorder of minutes
  • Attends committee meetings

C. Budgeting Duties

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of an appropriate budgetary procedure under the direction of the Finance Committee
  • Prepares an operating budget reflecting the Association’s estimated receipts and probable expenses for the fiscal year. This budget shall be approved and presented by the Finance Committee for consideration and adoption by the Board of Directors.
  • The Executive Director ensures, with the cooperation of  the NCBA Accounting Department, that the authorized procedure for expenditures is properly administered and that all funds, physical assets and other property of the Bar are appropriately administered
  • Procures an annual audit of the financial status and operations of the Association by a firm of independent certified public accountants selected by the Board of Directors and cause such audit to be submitted directly to the Finance Committee 

D. Tenth Judicial District Bar

  • Coordinates grievance and fee dispute resolution programs for the Tenth Judicial District Bar, an adjunct of the North Carolina State Bar.  In interacting with the public regarding confidential and sensitive issues, promotes good will and a basic understanding of the justice system. 
  • Serves as Fee Dispute Resolution Clerk for the Tenth Judicial District Bar Fee Dispute Resolution Program and, in cooperation with the Chair of the program, oversees all activities and records relating to this program
  • Oversees activities and records relating to the Tenth Judicial District Bar Grievance Committee Program in cooperation with the Chair of the program
  • Represents the WCBA and Tenth Judicial District Bar at official functions on the local, state and national level
