Mentee Information

  • Situational Mentees-
    • The situational mentee role is new and exciting. It allows a young lawyer to ask a single question to an experienced attorney who is willing to devote an hour helping the mentee work through the issue. From local rules, to ethical issues, to how to locate the best case law in an estate planning transaction, a situational mentee has the dual advantages of one-on-one contact missing in from the list-serves, and the ability to get sound advice from experts.
  • Traditional Mentees-
    • In the traditional mentorship, the mentee has the responsibility of making first contact with the mentor, maintaining communication, and following up with the mentor when appropriate. In return, the mentee will have a resource that is practically invaluable. The mentor and the mentee, at the beginning of the relationship, we develop goals and guidelines for the mentoring relationship. As the mentee works through those goals, he or she will learn about local rules, ethical concerns, hot topics in the legal community, and much more that is traditionally learned through the guidance of a more experienced attorney.
  • Criteria for Mentees-
    • Be an active member in good standing with the NC State Bar, with priority given to members of the NC Bar Association
    • Be a practitioner of law for no more than four years
