Description:

In recent years, North Carolina attorneys practicing in the areas of Constitutional Law, Education Law, and Juvenile Law have litigated issues such as free speech, school discipline, education rights, search and seizure, interrogations, and the meaning of changes to the juvenile code. Education attorneys and attorneys working with children have been involved in numerous important lawsuits over constitutional issues.

This full day program provides attendees with an extensive overview of new developments in these areas of law. Come to this program to hear unique perspectives from experienced practitioners, law professors, judges and elected officials.

  • Understand the controversy over Pre-K in North Carolina and hear perspectives from the judiciary and the legislature
  • Explore the challenges of social media and free speech in the public school context
  • Learn about an important North Carolina case recently decided by the Supreme Court of the United States
  • Examine the most recent cases impacting Constitutional Law, Education Law, and Juvenile Law
  • Understand the process and content of the sweeping new changes to school discipline law from the attorneys who drafted the statutory language
  • Understand the debate over the prosecution of 16 and 17 year olds as adults
  • Explore ethical issues raised in the representation of students, schools, and school boards
