Endowment Statement of Purpose
The NCBA Foundation Endowment was established to help fund
legally-related service projects within the NCBA and NCBA
Foundation and other North Carolina legal groups. These projects
respond to current and future legally-related needs that are often
times unforeseen and support projects that study, improve and
facilitate the administration of justice, build respect for and
understanding of the law, enhance the professional competence of
lawyers, support the delivery of legal services to eligible
indigent communities and support legally-related community service
projects.
The Foundation Endowment was formed in 1987 with the Founders
Campaign that raised over $1.5 million under the leadership of
Winston-Salem attorney, William F. Womble. In 1991, the Builders
Campaign raised an additional $350,000. Through the leadership of
James D. Blount, Jr. of Raleigh, the Centennial Endowment Campaign
raised over $1.6 million in 1999-2001, boosting the Foundation
Endowment to more than $5 million. With the creation of the Legal
Aid of North Carolina (LANC) Fund in January 2007, the Endowment
has grown to more than $8 million.
