RECENT WAKE GRADUATE BUILDS RESUME WITH 4TH CIRCUIT REVERSAL Check out this resume: West Point graduate, U.S. Army captain, JAG Corps trainee, successfully argued appeal before 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. If your name is Meghan Poirier, that’s how it reads following the 4th Circuit’s reversal in U.S. v. Mooney, No. 06-7565. The 28-year-old graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law handled the appeal in conjunction with the law school’s appellate clinic and appeared before the 4th Circuit just two days after graduating in May. http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1186996021009
LEGISLATIVE SCORECARD FAVORS NCBA INITIATIVES The NCBA’s legislative scorecard for 2007 included passage of 8 of 11 section-sponsored bills in addition to 11 bills that were formally supported by the NCBA. Passage of the $21 billion state budget included additional funding for the judicial branch over the next two years. IN MEMORIAM Dallas Alexander Cameron Jr., former AOC director and the first executive director of the Judicial Standards Commission, died Monday. He was 68. Survivors include his wife, Christie Cameron, clerk of the N.C. Supreme Court. A memorial service is scheduled Wednesday, Aug. 15; access the link below for details. NCBA STANDS TALL AT ANNUAL MEETINGS OF ABA, NABE NCBA members figured prominently in the recently completed annual meetings of the ABA and the National Association of Bar Executives in San Francisco. Highlights include the appointment of Judge James Wynn of the N.C. Court of Appeals as chair of the ABA’s Judicial Division, wherein Justice Mark Martin of the N.C. Supreme Court will serve as program chair. The conventions also marked the conclusion of NCBA Executive Director Allan Head’s tenure as president of the NABE. WAKE/10TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT BARS EARN GAMBRELL AWARD Festivities in San Francisco also included formal recognition of the Wake County Bar Association and the Tenth Judicial District Bar as recipients of the ABA’s E. Smythe Gambrell Award. The coveted professionalism award was accepted by Catharine Arrowood, president of the county and judicial district bar groups. Funded by the E.
