COMMENT SOUGHT REGARDING INTERNET ACCESS TO PLEA AGREEMENTS
The federal judiciary is seeking comment this month regarding the privacy and security implications of electronic public access to certain documents in criminal case files, which are currently accessible via the Internet to PACER subscribers. The Court Administration and Case Management Committee of the Judicial Conference is particularly interested in comments regarding plea agreements, which may contain information identifying defendants who are cooperating with law enforcement investigations. The Department of Justice has asked the Judicial Conference to restrict public Internet access to these documents. The comment deadline is Oct. 26; access the link below for details.
