SENATE CONFIRMS SCHROEDER; REIDINGER CEREMONY SET WEDNESDAY The U.S. Senate has confirmed Winston-Salem attorney Tom Schroeder to a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. The formal swearing-in ceremony has not been finalized for Schroeder, who was confirmed Friday (Dec. 14) by unanimous consent. The ceremony for fellow U.S. District Court nominee and NCBA member Martin Reidinger of Asheville, confirmed Sept. 10 to a seat on the Western District bench, will take place Wednesday (Dec. 19) at 2:30 in the Buncombe County Courthouse. Access the link below for more on Reidinger, who directs much of the credit for his appointment to colleagues within the 28th Judicial District Bar. http://www.citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071209/NEWS01/71208068/1250

S.C. BILLS WOULD SHIFT REGULATION OF PRACTICE FROM SUPREME COURT House bills pre-filed last week in South Carolina would take regulation of the practice of law away from the state Supreme Court and place it in the hands of a 13-member commission controlled by the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. The proposal follows in the wake of the state’s recent bar exam controversy. One measure calls for a constitutional amendment to allow the legislature to transfer authority; the other establishes guidelines for electing the 13-member Commission on the Legal Profession and the Judiciary. http://www.thestate.com/local/story/258260.html
