REGISTER ONLINE NOW FOR 4/4 STATEWIDE SERVICE DAY The Participate Working Group of the 4ALL Task Force is calling on North Carolina lawyers to register now for the Statewide Service Day, scheduled Friday, April 4. The event will feature a toll-free statewide telephone network staffed entirely by volunteer attorneys who will provide free legal information throughout the day from call centers in Asheville, Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro, New Bern, Raleigh, Wilmington and Winston-Salem. NC LEAP ANNOUNCING 21-COUNTY EASTERN N.C. EXPANSION MONDAY The North Carolina Lawyers for Entrepreneurs Assistance Program, better known as NC LEAP, is expanding into 21 eastern N.C. counties. Announcement is scheduled Monday morning, Jan. 28, at 10:30 at the Edgecombe County Business Industrial Incubator in Battleboro. The signature project of the NCBA’s Business Law and Corporate Counsel sections, NC LEAP provides free legal services to income-eligible, low-wealth business owners. MOMENTUM 2010’S JOINT DIVERSITY TASK FORCE REPORT ONLINE Diversity is a high-priority topic found throughout the NCBA’s five-year strategic plan, Momentum 2010. As a result of the plan, a task force was created by members of the diversity committees, including Women in the Profession Committee, Latino Affairs Committee and Minorities in the Profession, as well as members of the Membership Committee. The Joint Diversity Task Force’s final report, approved recently by the NCBA Board of Governors, and the Board’s Resolution in Supporting Greater Diversity in the Profession, are now available to members online. The program, which offers 7.25 hours of Ethics/Professionalism including 2.0 hours of Substance Abuse/Mental Health, is for lawyers who engage in the stressful work of negotiating relationships with opposing counsel, negotiating how to manage time and balance personal and professional obligations, and serving clients ethically, zealously and competently.
