IT’S OFFICIAL: ELON, CHARLOTTE EARN PROVISIONAL APPROVAL The ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar has granted provisional approval to the Elon University School of Law in Greensboro and Charlotte School of Law, both schools announced Monday. Received at the earliest possible date, provisional approval, or accreditation, entitles graduates from both schools to take the bar exam in every U.S. jurisdiction, welcome news to charter classes that will soon enter their third year. With this action, North Carolina now has seven law schools: Campbell, Charlotte, Duke, Elon, NCCU, UNC and Wake Forest. http://www.abanet.org/abanet/media/release/news_release.cfm?releaseid=359

IN MEMORIAM William Earl “Pot” Craft, longtime Kenansville town attorney and president of the Duplin County Bar Association, died June 4 at the age of 84. N.C. COURT OF APPEALS RELOCATES FOR RENOVATION PROJECT The 94-year-old Court of Appeals Building will undergo a significant facelift over the next 15 to 24 months. In the meantime, the N.C. Court of Appeals has relocated to 226 S. Wilmington Street – the old Wachovia building – that the Supreme Court utilized during its recent renovation effort. Fire systems, plumbing and wiring are among the areas being targeted, said Chief Judge John Martin. NCBA SETS SIGHTS ON SOUTH AFRICA IN 2009 Seats are selling fast for next year’s CLE Land Tour of South Africa. The 15-day excursion is scheduled Feb. 17-March 3, 2009; destinations include Sun City, Sabi Sabi (Kruger National Park), Cape Town and Victoria Falls (Zambia). A sunset cruise on the Zambezi River and a river cruise on the Chobe River are planned along with a winelands tour and safari “game” experiences.
