POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Executive Director acts as the primary deputy/chief of staff to the Executive Director, who is the chief operating officer and active managing executive of the Association. The Assistant Executive Director is responsible for committees and special duties and projects, as assigned by the Executive Director.
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, AND TRAINING:
Required: A Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited School of Law.
Preferred: Managerial Experience.
EXPERIENCE: Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the legal field or in a position with significant management duties.
ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Requires strong communications skills and the ability to deal effectively with both staff and volunteers. The ability to organize and prioritize a multitude of tasks is essential.

A. Executive Staff Support and Management - Assures that the various departments of responsibility operate efficiently and effectively.

· Closely supervises and supports the work of the various departments that report to position. |

· Communicates with Executive and Management staff about meetings, issues of concern, etc. |

· In the absence of the Executive Director, performs such duties as may be necessary to maintain the operations of the Association. |

• Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director. |

B. Committees - Coordinates the activities of NCBA committees as assigned.
|
· Acts as Staff Liaison to committees as may be assigned by the Executive Director. Currently assigned to the following committees: 4ALL Task Force, Charter & Bylaws, Citizen Lawyer Task Force, Local Bar Services, Medico-Legal Liaison, Strategic Planning & Emerging Trends, Resolutions, and Women in the Profession.
1. Works with committee chair to schedule meeting dates and notify committee members in a timely fashion of the dates and locations of committee meetings. Assists with speakers and special projects. Responsible for supervising arrangements of the logistics of meetings, including room availability and lunch.
2. Circulates minutes to committee members and maintains minute book for committee.
3. Works with committee chair to develop meeting agendas and provide background information and materials on matters of interest to the committee.
4. Advises committee chair on policies and procedures of the Association.
5. Advises committee chair on issues with regard to funding of committee projects and manages the budget with regard to any funds allocated to the committee.
6. In the absence of the volunteer chair, presents proposals to the Executive Committee and Board of Governors on behalf of the committee.

· Assists as necessary in the annual process of new committee appointments and development of committee rosters.
1. Makes recommendations, as appropriate, to the President and President-Elect with regard to committee leadership and membership.
2. Assists in annual process with the President-Elect to communicate with committee chairs regarding leadership/operations of the committee, including recommendations for new leadership, new committee members and change in the mission of the committee.
3. Meets with President-Elect as necessary to consult on the appointment of committee chairs and committee members. Assists as required in the process of obtaining new volunteers and notifying volunteers of appointments to committees for the coming year.
