The North Carolina Bar Association Health Benefit Trust was established to maintain an alternative for law firms to the small group health insurance marketplace. Over 8,200 lawyers, their staff and families pool health benefit contributions to cover health care expenses.
Employer contributions are determined by the experience of the whole group, and the Trust obtains reinsurance for especially large claims. Costs are competitive, and in many cases significantly less, than for similar small group health coverage.
