NCBA Annual Meeting Set June 19-22
Article Date: 2/1/2008
The 110th Annual Meeting of the North Carolina Bar Association is scheduled June 19-22 at the Sheraton Atlantic Beach Oceanfront Hotel.
The 2008 Annual Meeting will feature the installation of Charles Becton as the 114th president of the NCBA. Becton, who resides in Durham and practices in Raleigh with the firm of Becton, Slifkin & Bell, will succeed Janet Ward Black of Greensboro.
Political activities, North Carolina style, will undoubtedly be a prominent feature of this election year annual meeting. Candidates for the U.S. Senate, governor and the appellate courts have been invited to address the General Session on Saturday, June 21.
Of course, much remains to be decided on the political scene in terms of candidates and primaries, just as many key annual meeting details are still being worked out. But the date is set and online registration via the NCBA Web site, www.ncbar.org, is anticipated in early March. Several key events are already scheduled as well, including the Family Dinner at the N.C. Aquarium on Thursday, June 19, and the General Practice Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday, June 20.
And reservations, transacted independent of annual meeting registration directly through the Atlantic Beach Sheraton, are already being accepted by phone at 800-624-8875 or 252-240-1155.
Be sure to specify affiliation with the NCBA, which has received a reservation block of the entire hotel. The deeply discounted $155 room rate should sell out fast, as it did in 2006, so call now! Special rates at overflow hotels and condominium rentals will be announced at a future date.
