Resolution Creating The Judge John J. Parker Memorial Award
WHEREAS, the late Judge John Johnston Parker (1885-1958) was for fifty years a member of the Bar in this State, for forty-four years a member of this Association, for thirty-two years a Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and for twenty-seven years Chief Judge of that court, and in these and many other capacities rendered distinguished service to this profession, his State and his Nation; and
WHEREAS, Judge Parker was, throughout his career as lawyer and jurist, a profound and eloquent advocate of the improvement of the law, the administration of justice, and the legal profession in North Carolina and the United States; and
WHEREAS, It is the desire of this Association to honor the memory and the accomplishments of Judge Parker and to encourage the emulation of his deep devotion and enduring contribution to the law and to the administration of justice, and to recognize conspicuous service by others in the cause of jurisprudence in this, his native State,
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Board of Governors of the North Carolina Bar Association:
There is hereby established “The Judge John J. Parker Memorial Award,” the recipient of which shall be determined by the Board of Governors.
The purpose of this Award is to honor the memory and the accomplishments of Judge Parker and to encourage the emulation of his deep devotion and enduring contribution to the law and to the administration of justice by recognizing conspicuous service by members of the Bar of this State to the cause of jurisprudence in North Carolina.
