First-Time YLD Attendees Register Free
Article Date: 3/10/2008
The North Carolina Bar Association has granted a one-time waiver of the Annual Meeting registration fee for all young lawyers who are first-time attendees.
The offer gives young lawyers the best opportunity to participate in the premier networking event for North Carolina lawyers while learning firsthand what other lawyers who attend the conference already know, that the benefits gained from the convention outweigh its cost.
There are several networking opportunities that are specifically for young lawyers. The YLD events scheduled for the Annual Meeting are as follows:
Friday, June 20, 2008 3-4 p.m. YLD Executive Council Meeting (All Young Lawyers Welcome) 4-5 p.m. YLD Reception 4-7 p.m. Arts by Lawyers & Silent Auction sponsored by the YLD Meetings & Conventions Committee
Saturday, June 21, 2008 7:45 a.m. YLD Annual Meeting breakfast sponsored by Lawyers Mutual
The Executive Council meeting gives young lawyers the opportunity to learn about the inner workings of the YLD, and provides a chance for interested young lawyers to get involved with its numerous committees. The YLD Reception allows lawyers to meet new people in a relaxed social atmosphere. The YLD Silent Auction raises money for the Legal Aid of North Carolina Fund.
The YLD Annual Meeting includes elections for YLD officers for the next bar year. The guest speaker for the YLD Annual Meeting breakfast this year is Christine Mumma who is the executive director of the N.C. Center on Actual Innocence and the News & Observer’s most recent Tar Heel of the Year.
The YLD Pro Bono Award and the Charlie Blanchard YLD Outstanding Young Lawyer Award are both presented at the YLD Annual Meeting. This meeting is meant to inspire young lawyers to become involved and to see the good work that other young lawyers have already been doing.
