Bohm Named Assistant Executive Director

Article Date: 4/15/2008

David Bohm
David A. Bohm of Charlotte has been named assistant executive director of the North Carolina Bar Association. He will assume his new duties at the N.C. Bar Center on May 12.

NCBA Executive Director Allan Head announced the appointment Monday.

“David Bohm will bring energy and enthusiasm to the position,” Head stated. “He will be a wonderful addition to our team.”

Bohm will succeed Michelle Frazier who returns to private practice in May following seven years with the NCBA as director of governmental affairs and, since 2004, as assistant executive director.

The new assistant executive director, who serves as principal deputy and chief of staff to the executive director, brings a wealth of NCBA experience to his new position. Bohm previously chaired the Health Law Section and was completing his first year as a member of the NCBA Board of Governors at the time of his appointment.

Bohm is a native of Osborne, Kan. He received his bachelor’s degree from Washburn University in 1995, graduating magna cum laude, and subsequently earned his juris doctor from the Washburn University School of Law in 1998. Bohm also holds a master of law (LL.M.) in health law from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law, completing his studies there in 2000.

He has since engaged in private practice as an associate with Sumrell, Sugg, Carmichael, Hicks & Hart of New Bern (1999-2003) and Johnston, Allison & Hord of Charlotte. Licensed to practice in Kansas in 1998 and North Carolina in 1999, Bohm is a member of the ABA and its Health Law Section, the American Health Lawyers Association, the N.C. Bankers Association and the Mecklenburg County Bar.

Bohm and his wife, Summer, have two children. They are members of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill.

His previous community involvement includes participation in Leadership Charlotte and Leadership Craven. Bohm has served on the board of the Coastal Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Child Care Resource and Referral Program and the Civitan Club.

He chaired the Volunteer Development Committee of the Dowd YMCA, and is currently serving on the Paralegal Advisory Board for Central Piedmont Community College and as a student mentor at Charlotte School of Law.

Bohm has published numerous articles and serves often as a presenter on various health law topics. He served as co-editor of the Health Law Section’s newsletter, Prognosis, and co-chaired the section’s CLE Committee.
