New NCBA Board Members, VPs Elected

The Board of Governors of the North Carolina Bar Association elected new vice presidents and board members on Saturday, June 27, at the 2009 NCBA Annual Meeting in Asheville.
Elected to serve one-year terms as vice presidents of the NCBA are:
Judge A. Thomas Small of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of N.C. in Raleigh. Judge Small is a 1969 graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law who served more than 25 years on the Bankruptcy Court, including seven years as chief judge from 1992-99.
Senior Superior Court Judge W. Osmond Smith of Yanceyville. Judge Smith is a 1976 graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law who has served on the Superior Court bench in Judicial District 9A (Caswell and Person counties) since 1994.
District Court Judge Nancy E. Gordon of Durham. Judge Gordon is a 1979 graduate of the Case Western Reserve University School of Law who has served on the District Court bench in Durham County since 2007; and
Dean Blake Morant of the Wake Forest University School of Law in Winston-Salem. Dean Morant is a 1978 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law who has served as law school dean at Wake Forest since 2007.
Elected to serve a two-year at large position as vice president of the NCBA is Albert R. Bell Jr. of Raleigh. Bell is a 1975 graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law who has practiced law since 1994 with Ward and Smith, where he is a shareholder.
The newly elected members of the Board of Governors, who will be serving the first year of a three-year term, are:
Arnita M. Dula of Hickory. Dula is a 2001 graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law who has served as staff attorney for the City of Hickory since 2006;
William B. Gwyn Jr. of Raleigh. Gwyn is a 1981 graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law and past chair of the NCBA Business Law Section who practices with Manning Fulton & Skinner;
Corie D. Pauling of Charlotte. Pauling is a 1997 graduate of the Northwestern University School of Law who has served as senior counsel for TIAA-CREF (Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association) since 2006;
Bradley N. Schulz of Smithfield. Schulz is a 1984 graduate of the New York Law School and past chair of the NCBA Law Practice Management Section who is a senior attorney with Mast, Schulz, Mast, Johnson, Wells & Trimyer, where he has practiced since 1985;
C. Thomas Steele Jr. of Burlington. Steele is a 1987 graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law and past chair of the NCBA Real Property Section who has practiced law since 1987 with Wishart, Norris, Henninger & Pittman, where he is an equity partner;
Craig A. Taylor of Greensboro is a 2001 graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law who has practiced since 2001 with Carruthers & Roth, where he is a director and shareholder; and
Carlton F. Williamson of Whiteville. Williamson is a 1980 graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law and past chair of the NCBA GP, Small and Solo Section who is a partner in Williamson, Walton & Scott, where he has practiced since 1980.
The new board members and vice presidents will also serve on the Board of Directors of the NCBA Foundation.
