The second time proved the charm for Gray Stone Day School of Misenheimer, the victor Friday in the finals of the Moot Court competition held in conjunction with the North Carolina Bar Association’s 48th annual observance of Law Day.

Gray Stone Day returned as the Western Region champions for a rematch with reigning champion Terry Sanford High School of Fayetteville. Returnee Johnna Herron and Kristen Welsh argued on behalf of Gray Stone Day, capturing the title that Terry Sanford had won three times the previous four years as Eastern Region champions.

Rita Shah and Sebastian Franco represented Terry Sanford.

Judge John M. Tyson presented the Moot Court championship trophies to Johnna Herron, left, and Kristen Welsh.
The Moot Court Finals were judged before a panel of N.C. Court of Appeals judges Friday morning. Each winning student receives a $300 savings bond while a $200 savings bond was presented to each of the runners-up during the Law Day awards ceremony at the North Carolina Museum of History’s Daniels Auditorium.

Judges Barbara A. Jackson, Robin E. Hudson, Douglas McCullough and John M. Tyson judged the Moot Court finals.

Law Day is the culmination of a year's worth of activities for school children in North Carolina sponsored by the NCBA’s Young Lawyers Division. Students took part in various programs including essay, photography and poster art contests that were also announced at Law Day.
