NCBA Foundation Establishes Legal Relief Fund
Article Date: 9/28/2005
The Hurricane Katrina Legal Relief Fund has been established through the NCBA Foundation to help rebuild the legal infrastructure – including law offices and law firms – in Mississippi and Louisiana.
North Carolina Bar Association President Mike Colombo is encouraging N.C. attorneys to contribute. Checks made payable to the NCBA Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) entity, will in turn fund the rebuilding effort in the two states most severely impacted by the disaster. Secured online credit card contributions are also welcomed.
The NCBA Foundation will match up to $10,000 in cumulative gifts to the Hurricane Katrina Legal Relief Fund.
“North Carolina lawyers have a proud history of supporting legal relief initiatives in the aftermath of disasters,” said NCBA Executive Director Allan Head who is serving on the ABA Task Force on Hurricane Katrina by President Mike Greco.
Recent endeavors, Head added, include support for eastern N.C. attorneys affected by Hurricane Floyd in 1999 and aid to New York attorneys following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Tax-deductible contributions, earmarked for the NCBA Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, should be directed to: NCBA Foundation, N.C. Bar Center, PO Box 3688, Cary, NC 27519.
