THE VOLUNTEER LAWYERS PROGRAM (VLP) - Works collaboratively with organizations in Mecklenburg County to provide legal assistance for indigent families and individuals in civil cases. This program also provides legal services for qualifying nonprofit organizations. Volunteers for the VLP are expected to represent a minimum of at least two clients per year. The program is designed to schedule each attorney's time when it is most convenient for him or her, to structure it usefully, and to limit it to a modest number of hours per year. LEGAL SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY (LSE) - Administers legal assistance for elderly citizens aged 60 and over. INTERACT - Interact is a private, nonprofit United Way Agency created in 1984 to address the needs of battered women and their children and survivors of sexual assault. WOMEN'S CENTER OF WAKE COUNTY - The Center's purpose is to promote the growth, productiveness, and well-being of the women in the Wake County area through a variety of programs of counseling, educational, informational and vocational nature; and to provide these services in a secure, supportive environment that is responsive to a woman-s emotional need and economic level. Legal Informational Services are available to help women understand their legal rights and options. In addition to answering questions about North Carolina law, they also provide the emotional support needed to help women better cope with court procedures and other complexities of the judicial system.
