Judicial Performance Evaluation (JPE) - Attorney Home Page

JPE Password Holders:
Attorneys

The Judicial Performance Evaluation Program of the North Carolina Bar Association, or JPE, strives to enhance the performance and increase the accountability of North Carolina Superior Court and District Court judges. This groundbreaking endeavor has also been designed to provide these trial judges with constructive feedback for improvement and to inform the electorate before each general election of the evaluation rating of each judge on the ballot as either “qualified” or “not qualified.”

JPE participants will encounter the following options upon accessing the survey:

  •  County
  •  Judicial District
  •  Judge’s Name
  •  Superior Court or District Court

Participants are encouraged to evaluate each judge whom they have appeared before and/or observed enough times to form a valid assessment. To ensure quality, only one survey per respondent per judge will be accepted.

Your anonymity as part of this process is very important to us.  Your e-mail address will only be used to deliver the required password and link to the performance evaluation materials.

Please note that, under current state law, evaluations completed on a government computer may constitute a public record. Because anonymity is an integral part of this project, government employees should take the survey on a privately owned computer.

JPE Passwords will be provided electronically to NCBA members and non-member attorneys for whom e-mail addresses are accessible via their respective bar-related groups. JPE Passwords are also being provided electronically to North Carolina district attorneys, assistant district attorneys and public defenders. Other non-member attorneys who wish to participate, and members of the aforementioned organizations and offices who have not received JPE Password notification, should click the link in the box above to acquire their JPE Password.

The surveys are anticipated to remain open until the end of July, but we encourage you to complete the survey as early as possible.
