About Law-Related Education

People, Programs & Publications
for Law-Related Education

Since its inception in 1998, the Law-Related Education Advisory (LREA) Committee of the North Carolina Bar Association's Foundation has been committed to providing North Carolina’s teachers access to the PEOPLE, PROGRAMS and PUBLICATIONS they need to make law-related education interesting, meaningful and fun for their students. The following are examples of how LRE “People, Programs and Publications” help educate students about the legal system and the legal profession.

PEOPLE:
LRE puts teachers in touch with lawyers and other legal professionals who can bring law-related topics to life in the classroom.

PROGRAMS:
PROGRAMS FOR EDUCATORS:
• Attorneys for Partnering for Progress in Legal Education (A.P.P.L.E) Conference - A one-day program of law-related and civic education projects and presentations for educators and legal professionals.

• Justice Teaching Institute (JTI) - A program designed to increase teachers’ understanding of the court system and judicial process and to give them the tools they need to pass that knowledge on to their students.

PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS:
• We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution - The primary goal of this instructional program is to promote civic competence and responsibility in elementary, middle and high school students.

• NC Bar Center Field Trips - The NC Bar Center is the perfect venue for classes to visit and learn about law-related topics from lawyers and other legal professionals.

PUBLICATIONS:
LRE maintains Publications Station, a searchable, online database providing descriptions, ordering information and downloadable law-related publications and programs created by the North Carolina Bar Association that can be supported with classroom guests.

LRE also provides information to educators about non-NCBA publications and programs of interest through our WebLinks service, providing links to other law-related and civic education websites that may be useful to North Carolina educators.

In summary, by providing interesting and informative "People, Programs and Publications for Law-Related Education," LRE works to establish lasting, meaningful relationships with educators at every grade level and to excite and educate students about the law and the legal profession.
