The S.A.F.E.T.Y. Summit is designed to increase the violence awareness of youth and adults participating in the Summit. The program begins with a trip to the New Hanover County Courthouse where the Freeman students will meet local public officials and see Judge Corpening's violence awareness play. Then the students travel by bus to the UNCW Warwick Center for interactive activities planned by local agencies that will teach personal safety skills, self awareness, appropriate responses to bullying and teamwork. The adult Summit participants will bring a brown bag lunch to eat with the students at the Warwick Center, then the students will return to school. Judge Rebecca Blackmore, Dr. Sharon Cooper, Forensic Pediatrician, and DREAMS will present to the adults in the afternoon at the Warwick Center.
Judge Corpening and ADA Lilian Salcines will make a presentation about the New Hanover County Summit at the North Carolina Bar Association Law Related Education Conference on October 3, 2006. Until then for more information about the S.A.F.E.T.Y. Summit, call Dolores Williams, LIS Committee member at (910) 341-5851.
