8:00 Mock trial assignment given – be prepared for short mock-up in Open Session

8:30 Adjourn/Return to Hotel

Monday, October 15, 2007 (Day Two) Open Session at N.C. Bar Center

7:00 – 8:30am Breakfast (Hampton Inn & Suites)

8:30 – 8:45 Fellows travel from hotel to N.C. Bar Center

8:15  Registration for Non-fellows

9:00  Welcome and Introductions

9:15 – 10:00 Lawyers and Law Students in the classroom  

10:00 – 10:45 Civil Rights, Race and the Law

10:45 – 11:00 Break

11:00 – 12:30 Leandro, Bailey, Stephenson v. Bartlett, & Role of Independent Judiciary

Individual presentations of 10 minutes and panel discussion

12:30 – 1:30 Lunch

1:30pm – 2:00 We the People student & teacher demonstration
   
2:00 – 2:30 Project Citizen Activity

2:30 – 3:15 The Changing Face of Justice (pending)

3:15 – 3:30 NCBA LRE Website

Fellows to discuss how they would apply what they have learned in their classrooms and begin to develop ideas on the lesson plan that they will submit to the LRE Dept.

Tuesday, October 16, 2007 (Day Three) Appeals Court

7:00 – 8:00am Breakfast; check out of hotel

8:30   Travel to downtown Raleigh to visit courts
(Transportation will be provided, but participants may wish to travel on their own so that they may leave from Raleigh for home)

9:00  North Carolina Court of Appeals (Observation of oral arguments)

11:00  Q & A with Appellate Judges

12:00  Recognition Luncheon – N. C. Museum of History
Presentation of graduation certificates with pictures

1:00  Program evaluation & sharing

2:00  Final Adjournment
