A.P.P.L.E. Conference
Thank you to all who participated at the sixth Law-Related Education (LRE) Conference, newly named A.P.P.L.E. Conference (Attorneys Partnering for Progress in Legal Education ) was held on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at the NCBA in Cary, NC, hosted by the Law-Related Education Advisory (LREA) Committee. The conference was free to educators across the state and lunch was provided.
The theme for the conference was "Make a Difference...Through Law-Related Programs and Publications in North Carolina."
The presentations included demonstrations of the PEP Rally by the YLD Peer Medication Committee and We The People: The Citizen and The Constitution Mock Congressional Hearings.
There was a presentation by The Honorable Julius Corpening, District Court, Wilmington and Lillian Salcines, Assistant District Attorney, 5th Judicial District that highlights the "S.A.F.E.T.Y. Summit." This program will then become available to elementary schools across the state whereby students participate at the district courthouse viewing a mock trial.
We are excited to announce that our featured speaker was Representative Rick Glazier from Cumberland County. There were break out sessions and teacher workshop ideas as part of the activities throughout the day.
