Am I a potential NC LEAP Client?

Low-wealth entrepreneurs lie at the heart of NC LEAP's program services.  NC LEAP defines a "low-wealth" entrepreneur as an individual who makes 80% or less than the state median income relative to the size of his or her household.  For example, an individual whose household consists of two adults (the individual and one other) and two children is considered a household of four.  In order to qualify for NC LEAP's services, an individual's adjusted gross income (AGI) must be less than 80% of the state median income for a family of four.

What is the process for becoming an NC LEAP Client?

  1. Complete an NC LEAP application and send it to us with all attachments.
  2. We will screen you for income eligibility and to determine if your legal issue is one we can handle.
  3. If you are eligible we will refer your case to an attorney with the time and expertise to handle your case.  That attorney must then conduct a check to make sure there is no conflict of interest in his/her handling your matter.
  4. This process may take a few weeks so please be patient.  Once everything is clear, you will receive a letter from NC LEAP with your attorney's name and phone number.
  5. Call your attorney within seven(7) days of receipt of our letter.
  6. Remember, while legal fees are pro bono, clients are still expected to pay out of pocket expenses related to their matter (i.e. filing or application fees).

Where can I go if I'm not eligible for NC LEAP services?
