Law Student Representative: Sierra Watkins

As a 2025-26 NCBA law student representative, Sierra is looking forward to strengthening connections with her peers and forming new ones with attorneys across the state.
Prior to law school, she completed her bachelor’s degree in history and gained professional experience through internships at the Public Defender’s Office, a family law firm and an estate planning firm.
Becoming a lawyer has been a lifelong dream for Sierra, and Elon Law was the perfect fit. She was drawn to the school’s commitment to diversity and its unique 2.5-year program. Sierra is now pursuing civil rights law and hopes to one day become a law professor, in addition to establishing herself as a successful civil rights attorney.
Throughout my education and professional career, I have learned to always be curious. There is always more to learn in the legal field, and asking questions is a great way to further your understanding. Don’t be afraid to ask questions! There is almost always someone else who has the same one as you.
Being an NCBA law student representative is just the beginning of Sierra’s leadership experience. As a 1L, she was a leadership fellow and served as the 1L representative to the Black Law Students Association. For her 2L year, she will serve as vice president of the Black Law Students Association and as a teaching assistant for Legal Methods and Communication I.
When Sierra isn’t studying law, she enjoys trying new foods and restaurants, visiting museums and spending time with family and friends.
From the moment a student enters one of North Carolina’s seven law schools, the NCBA is there to provide services and experiences that will enhance and enrich the law school experience. Beyond the books and the bar exam, the value of networking is underscored through active membership in the NCBA Law Student Division — and it’s free.
