Advance Care Workshops Offered

Advance Care Workshops Offered

In April, health care providers across the state will be hosting free Advance Care Planning Workshops scheduled to celebrate National Health Care Decisions Day, which is April 16. The public is welcome and will receive free information and assistance with completing Health Care Power of Attorney and Living Will forms.

The Health and Elder & Special Needs Law Sections of the North Carolina Bar Association, NC Partnership for Compassionate Care regional coalition members, local attorneys, and health care providers across the state are providing information and tools to help those who want assistance in talking about their wishes with family, friends and health care providers.

There will also be an opportunity to execute written advance directives (Health Care Power of Attorney and Living Will) in accordance with North Carolina state laws for participants wishing to complete the documents. These resources and documents are available online under the resource tab at www.gotplans123.org.

As a health care community, it is important that we act as facilitators in providing the tools and information for those seeking to make their health care decisions known.

In 2016, workshops were held in 21 counties across the state with over 500 people attending; nearly doubling the efforts from 2015. In 2017, our goal was to continue to expand our reach. We are thrilled to say there will be participants from 20 counties and 22 workshops in 2017.

In these clinic workshops, you will learn:

  • Learn about health care powers of attorney
  • Learn about living wills
  • Complete your advance directives*
  • Talk about your wishes for end-of-life treatment

*Participants will need to bring a photo ID in order to have your advance directives notarized.

This project is made possible in part through funding from the NCBA Foundation Endowment.
