NCBA Attorney Exchange Headed to Portugal
The next NCBA Attorney Exchange has been scheduled and the destination is Portugal.
Dates for the excursion are April 17-29, 2015. The application deadline is Feb. 20, and the delegation will be selected on or before Feb. 28.
Since its inception in 2006, the NCBA Attorney Exchange program has been coordinated by the International Law & Practice Section. Participation is welcomed and encouraged from all members of the bar association.
During the exchange, the NCBA delegation will be staying in Lisbon and Porto, liaise with leading legal experts in Portugal’s private bar and public sectors, visit with high-ranking legal officials, earn 12-15 hours of NCBA CLE, visit memorable places, and eat wonderful meals. Roughly 60% of your time will be spent in CLE programs and at venues selected to learn more about the Portuguese approach to the practice of law.
The goal of the Attorney Exchange Program, as noted in its statement of purpose, “is to gain a better understanding of the laws, legal systems, people and culture of other countries; to share and exchange legal knowledge and experience; and to foster goodwill among attorneys of the world.”
The first Attorney Exchange Program international visit took place in 2006 when an NCBA delegation traveled to the Republic of China (Taiwan). Outbound excursions have also been conducted to Argentina (2008), Turkey (2010) and Lithuania and Latvia (2012).
Inbound excursions have been conducted by legal professionals from Argentina (2009) and Lithuania (2013).
