Law Student Representative: Suzy Brito Lagunas

Suzy Brito Lagunas is excited to use her position as a 2025-26 NCBA law student representative to be a bridge and a resource for other law students, especially first-generation students like herself. It is an opportunity to connect students with a network of accomplished attorneys who are trailblazers across North Carolina and to encourage others to find their place within the legal profession.
Prior to law school, Suzy majored in business and public policy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she developed an interest in how law and policy intersect with economic growth and community development. After graduating, she took a gap year and worked in local government as a Lead for N.C. fellow in her hometown of Lee County. That experience gave her practical insight into how laws and policies affect people’s daily lives.
Suzy chose to pursue law school because she wanted to give back to her community in a meaningful way. Growing up, she saw firsthand how the law could change the trajectory of a family’s life, including her own. Campbell Law stood out to her because of its strong ties to the local community, its focus on service and its commitment to preparing practice-ready lawyers. She is pursuing a career in business law, with a focus on how economic development and legal frameworks can work together to strengthen communities.
Her leadership and volunteer experiences have also contributed significantly to her educational and professional growth. She has been involved with the Volunteer Income Tax Clinic as a pro bono volunteer, where she assisted individuals with tax preparation. She is currently a member of the Hispanic Law Student Association at Campbell Law.
As a Latina, joining HLSA was important to me because it provides a supportive community of students who share similar backgrounds and experiences. Through this involvement, I’ve been able to build connections and help foster a space where other Hispanic students feel supported as they navigate law school.
Looking ahead, Suzy’s goal is to become a strong advocate for others, particularly in the area of business law, where she can use legal tools to promote innovation, equity and opportunities for communities across North Carolina.
I’ve learned that every path is unique, but there is so much value in seeking wisdom from those who have walked before you. My advice is to embrace mentorship in all its forms while also making sure to diversify the voices you learn from. Different perspectives can help shape a more well-rounded approach to law and service.
When Suzy is not studying law, she enjoys Zumba, spending time with family, thrifting and running. She’s even training for a marathon!
