Law Student Representative: David “Cody” Liskey

Serving as a 2025-26 NCBA law student representative offers David “Cody” Liskey the chance to grow not only as a future attorney, but also as an integral part of the broader legal community. Cody is excited to use this opportunity to learn, mentor and foster initiatives that empower others while helping shape the ethical and collaborative foundations of the legal profession.

Prior to law school, Cody earned his bachelor’s degree in management, with a focus on entrepreneurship and innovation, and a minor in finance from Georgia Southern University. After graduation, he began his professional career at JPMorgan Chase as a banker, gaining hands-on experience in finance, business strategy and client relations.

Cody decided to attend law school to expand his career opportunities and combine his business background with legal expertise to provide strategic guidance to businesses. Elon University School of Law stood out for its strong reputation in practical learning and its supportive environment for part-time students, allowing him to continue growing professionally while preparing for a legal career as a corporate attorney, either in-house as counsel or at a large firm specializing in business and finance law.

Balancing a career with personal and professional growth has been a rewarding challenge for Cody — one that has taught him the importance of ambition balanced with adaptability.

Managing a career, law school and personal life has taught me time management, perseverance and the value of setting both professional and personal goals. My advice would be to remain curious, proactive and resilient. Building a strong foundation in business and finance while developing legal expertise can open doors to exciting opportunities. Challenges and setbacks are inevitable, but staying resilient and persistent often leads to the greatest growth and success.

Cody is an active member of both the North Carolina Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Through these organizations, he stays connected to the legal community, participates in professional development opportunities and engages with peers to broaden his understanding of the field.

Outside of law and work, Cody enjoys spending time with his wife, being outdoors and going on hikes. Exploring nature is a passion of his, and he has set a personal goal to visit every national park in the United States.

From the moment a student enters one of North Carolina’s seven law schools, the NCBA is there to provide services and experiences that will enhance and enrich the law school experience. Beyond the books and the bar exam, the value of networking is underscored through active membership in the NCBA Law Student Division — and it’s free.
