Law Student Representative: Joshua (Josh) A. Peacock

As a big believer in the NCBA’s core mission and values, Joshua (Josh) A. Peacock is thrilled to serve as a 2025-26 NCBA law student representative. Having seen firsthand the impact the association has on communities across North Carolina, he looks forward to embodying a lawyer who is principled, compassionate and committed to justice — a true reflection of the NCBA’s members.

Josh is a 35-year-old husband and father of two daughters, as well as a proud first-generation law student. His path to law school has been anything but traditional. For nearly a decade, he worked as a welder and fabricator doing hands-on, blue-collar work that taught him discipline, leadership and perseverance. But even as he built with steel, he dreamed of building a future in law.

Growing up on a farm in rural Davidson County, the idea of becoming a lawyer once felt out of reach. I’ve always believed in the power of advocacy and how the law can be a lifeline for those who need it most. After years of sharing this dream with my wife, she gave me the push I needed. She told me we were ready and that I should go for it — so I did.

While working full time, Josh earned his bachelor’s degree from Liberty University. When it came time to choose a law school, a dinner with Dean Leonard made it clear that Campbell Law was where he belonged. Now a rising 2L, he has discovered a deep appreciation for nearly every area of law he has encountered.

Recently, Josh was honored as a 2025 Open Door Fellow and placed in an internship with the Raleigh-Durham International Airport Authority under the leadership of NCBA member Erin Locklear. There, he gained valuable insight into the unique legal challenges of airport and construction law. He is currently interning with the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, where he is learning about regulatory and agricultural litigation. While Josh remains open-minded about his future practice area, he knows for certain that he wants to litigate, advocate and serve the interests of clients.

Throughout my journey, I’ve learned that hard work opens doors, but it’s the helping hands along the way that make the climb possible. Mentorship has shaped my life, and I’m committed to paying that forward. My advice to others is simple: Reach for the stars. You are strong enough, smart enough and worthy enough to achieve your goals. Sometimes, you just need to take the first step to realize you belong.

Outside of law school, Josh’s greatest joy is spending time with his family. Whether its riding bikes, going to the pool or catching a movie, he cherishes every moment.

From the moment a student enters one of North Carolina’s seven law schools, the NCBA is there to provide services and experiences that will enhance and enrich the law school experience. Beyond the books and the bar exam, the value of networking is underscored through active membership in the NCBA Law Student Division — and it’s free.
