Email Spoofing Notice

Attention NCBA Members:

You may have received the spoofing email below claiming to be from NCBA Executive Director Jason M. Hensley. This is not a real email from Jason or the North Carolina Bar Association.

If you received the email, please delete it. You may wish to block the sender address to reduce the frequency of future spoofing/phishing attempts. If your firm has IT support, we recommend reaching out to IT to alert them to this spoofing attempt.

As a reminder, our organization’s leadership and staff members will never ask you for login credentials. We also will never email you regarding the purchase of gift cards, Zelle transfers, wire transfers, etc.

Below you will find some helpful information regarding spoofing/phishing emails.

  • Check the sender email address. Typically on a mobile phone you will only see the sender name and have to click the name to view the email address.
  • If you are unsure about the validity of an email, contact the sender directly based on the contact information you have for them, not what you see in the email.
  • Be aware of messages that are “urgent”.
  • Look for typos and bad grammar.
  • Avoid opening suspicious/unknown attachments.
  • Don’t click on links to “access your account” or links that don’t match the destination when you hover over them.

Before proceeding, I would like to confirm if this is the best email address to use for sending these instructions securely.
