Law Student Representative: John Godfrey Jr.
John Godfrey joined the NCBA to learn from local attorneys and to meet fellow law students whom he will work alongside in practice. John is not originally from the area, so the NCBA has been an excellent place to make connections and learn more about the North Carolina legal market. Now, John is an NCBA Law Student Representative at Duke University School of Law. John chose to go to law school because he wants a career where he can help people when they need it most. John wants to solve complex problems and achieve successful outcomes for people who trust him. At a basic level, he also loves to read and write. This line of work seems to value close, careful reading and high-quality writing so he began law school to build his reading and writing skills and is excited for a career that allows him to keep building them each time he sits down to work.
To steal a bit of wisdom from a professor I had in the fall: be kind. Law school is an incredible opportunity to learn a million things from so many different people. It’s also stressful at times, which can confuse our priorities about what really matters, like the difference between wanting to do well for your own sake vs. wanting to seem smart or get ahead. Kindness, to others and yourself, helps re-center what really matters. It’s also how people will remember you long after law school (so I’m told).
Students attending ABA-accredited law schools or provisionally accredited law schools are eligible for complimentary membership in the NCBA Law Student Division. Interested in learning more and becoming involved with the Division? View eligibility requirements and upcoming networking opportunities.
