Legal Practice Hall of Fame Award: Glenn A. Barfield
Glenn A. Barfield is the Senior Member in the firm Haithcock Barfield Hulse & King, PLLC in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The firm was founded in 1961 by the late Henson P. Barnes, and Glenn was raised in the law by Mr. Barnes, Glenn’s mentor the late R. Gene Braswell, and now retired W. Timothy Haithcock.
Practice areas: Glenn has maintained his General Practice of Law for over 38 years. His practice is client based. For those clients he regularly handles: business transactions and business litigation, estate and land disputes, disputes involving funds of money, such as account and insurance proceeds, debt defense and collection, all manner of employment matters, for both employees and employers, landlord tenant disputes for both landlords and tenants, education law matters, including teachers, parents, and students, personally injury and wrongful death including insurance coverage disputes, and general civil litigation, in all courts, trial through appeal. Glenn is general counsel for a charter school, and for the area electric membership cooperative. In criminal court Glenn has represented defendants in every sort of matter from traffic tickets to sitting first chair in capital murder litigation, through jury trials and appeal. He still maintains a limited criminal defense practice.
Family: Glenn has been Married to Ronda Bailey Barfield since 1991. They have two sons, Gabriel, 25, and Lucas, 22. Gabriel and Ronda both work in the firm; while Lucas is a professional chef.
Admissions: Glenn is admitted to practice before all the courts of North Carolina, as well as before the United States District Courts and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Professional Associations: Glenn is a member of the Wayne County Bar Association, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice.
Education: Glenn graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1979. In 1983, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1986, Glenn was awarded the degree of Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Civic Life: Glenn coached youth football and basketball for the Spring Creek Youth Association. He is a Past Chair and founding Board Member of Legal Aid of NC, Inc, on whose Board he continues to serve; and Past President and present Board Member of Legal Services of NC, Inc. Glenn serves as Pro Bono General Counsel for Wayne Opportunity Center Inc., and the Goldsboro-Wayne County Arts Council. In 2003 The North Carolina Bar Association presented Glenn with the William L. Thorpe Award as North Carolina’s Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year.
